What I do for a living, well, I am a mechanical engineer. I graduated from the University of Singapore in 1980. I am among the last batch of graduates from that university. The university was renamed National University of Singapore in 1981. Why "national"? Because Nanyang University (the other university) was joined with University of Singapore to form, one national university.
I used to work as a mechanical engineer in the Chief Mechanical Engineer's Office, doing M&E design work for buildings. The office was one of the 6 offices in the Specialist Service Division (SSV) of Public Works Department. M&E work involves water supply, pumps, air conditioning of rooms and buildings, mechanical ventilation of facilities and civil defence shelters, fire protection systems like hosereels, sprinklers, dry and wet risers and fire hydrants. These are some of the projects I completed:-
Before doing project works in Chief Mechanical Engineer's Office, I was doing Estate Management work in Chief Estate Manager's Office, PWD. These are *some* of the facilities I helped maintained:-
Before working in Public Works Dept, I work in NUH Commissioning Secretariat where I was in charge of equipping the new hospital with all the medical, operating theatre and laboratory equipment. That means, all the X ray machines, baby weighing scales, centrifuges, baby incubators, resuscitators, heart lung m/c, lab ovens, kitchen equipment/system, fibrescopes, microscopes, operating theatre lights, ultrasound machines, physiotherapy equipment, etc. You get the idea!
I also fixed computers in my leisure time. To date I have fixed about 30 computers for friends and colleagues, all at zero cost and *some* at personal loss of $. ALL represents loss of time but I do not mind as experience is gained. Learning Linux now in my spare time. Maybe hacking (?) in the future.
That's my resume, in brief!
